Welcome from the President

Valerie R. Roberson, Ph.D.

As I reflect on my five years as president at Roxbury Community College, I am thrilled by the transformation of the College, made possible through a collective effort by faculty, staff, students and administrators. While the positive changes to the campus are too numerous to list, some bear special mention.

For starters, we've completed $72.5 million in campus renovations. These renovations include a campus-wide energy efficiency project, which includes the 3,000-panel solar canopy above parking lot #1, a state-of-the-art Health Sciences Building, a new student commons, the renovated library and learning center, newly-renovated STEM labs, a refurbished Media Arts Center, and more. If you haven't been on-campus to experience these renovations first-hand, I encourage you to schedule a visit!

Using new Federal guidelines for defining success at community colleges, we're also better at demonstrating our success in preparing students than ever before. In fact, when both full-time and part-time students are tracked over a longer period of time, data shows that over 60% of RCC students either complete degrees or transfer to another higher educations institution.

Additionally, we remain committed to preparing our students to meet the demands of Boston's rapidly-growing industries. In preparation for the future, we're now developing degree programs in cyber security, smart building technology, surgery technology and business and hospitality. We will continue to partner with industry leaders on curriculum development, to ensure to our students are well-prepared for career success in these emerging fields.

I'm also thrilled that our robust portfolio of free programs for local youth and seniors continues to grow. And, this year, we're rolling out even more events tailored to the interests of our community, across campus. We are committed to ensuring that RCC remains a vital community resource, now and into the future.

Thank you for your continued support of Roxbury Community College. I look forward to seeing you on-campus over the coming months.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Valerie Roberson
